The 22-year-old tackle boasted the highest Pro Football Focus pass blocking grade (91.4) among all offensive linemen in Week 1.
His second game ball went to another offensive player in Quentin Johnston, whose team-leading 79 receiving yards and two touchdowns provided the difference for Herbert and the offense.
The quarterback was impressed with what he saw in the receivers first game of Year 3.
“I think Q is another guy that gets another game ball,” Herbert said. “Had two huge touchdowns, made a bunch of plays and just looked fast out there. Was playing fast, free, relaxed.”
He later added: “I think in Year 2 of the offense, understands it better and he’s playing confident. He’s got a lot of confidence because he’s going out there and making plays. That’s when he’s at his best, and he was at his best.”
Herbert’s last game ball didn’t go to a player, but rather the whole defensive unit that kept the Chiefs to 21 points.
The Bolts defense was stellar once again to start the season, and Herbert made sure to give the credit to the whole unit for helping in the win.
“To avoid any confrontation, I would just say the defense in general, they get a game ball,” Herbert said. “To go against an offense like that, to hold them to 21 points, that’s a big win.
“They’ve done that the past couple of years, too. Coach [Jesse] Minter has done such a great job with those guys the way they fly around and play,” Herbert added. “Personally, I see it in practice every day, I go up against them. Those guys led by Khalil [Mack], Derwin [James, Jr.], fun to watch.”
