BROOKVILLE — After tying the game at 1-1 near the midway point through the first half, the Brookville Raiders soccer team ran into a St. Marys buzz-saw as the visiting Dutch scored five unanswered goals in a 6-1 victory.

The 1-3 Raiders got the tying goal when Isaac Reitz converted off a pass from Austin Werner at the 18:41 mark of the first half. From there, the Dutch took over.

Caleb Keiper scored three goals while Lukasz Curtis, Vincent DeFilippi and Aaron Bennett found the net. Curtis and Christian Sines made assists.

Curtis started the game’s scoring at 23:49 in the first half before the Raiders tied up just over five minutes later.

But St. Marys scored twice before intermission, DeFilippi off a pass from Sines at 14:25 and Keiper’s first goal 40 seconds later on a pass from Curtis.

Bennett made it 4-1 on an assisted goal less than nine minutes into the second half. Keiper’s last two goals came in the final four minutes of regulation, including his third with 48.1 seconds on the clock to set the final.

Also at home against the Rovers, the Raiders played a scoreless tie until halftime before Brockway scored twice in the second half.

The Rovers got goals from Isaac Barber and Luke Martino within a span of less than three minutes midway through the second half and made that stand up as goalkeeper Edison Bazik needed to save just four shots to earn his clean sheet.

Owning just a 5-3 shots on goal edge in the first half, the Rovers’ 10-1 edge in the second half told the tale and for the game, they held a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Perhaps Brady Hughes’ shot that clanged off the far post 10 minutes into the second half was a sign of Rovers success to come. At the 25:56 mark, a wide-open Hughes took a feed from Westin Luzier from 22 yards out at the top of the box and blasted a goal past Raiders goalkeeper Coltin Gardner.

Then with 22:43 left, it was Martino taking a feed from Hughes to set the final score.

“They have some athletes who like to run, so if we pass around more and make them run a little more, that tires them quicker,” Daugherty said. “That was the plan after halftime and I’m really proud of these guys.”

The Raiders’ best scoring chance probably came in the first half when Austin Werner’s shot from high in the box was blocked by a Rovers defender. In the second half, Oryn Vander Kelen’s open shot from the left wing didn’t have enough on it to fool Bazik.

“The first half definitely looked better than the second half,” Raiders head coach Dave Reitz said. “We lost the midfield. Maddox (Harmon) came off with a thigh injury … we completely lost the midfield and that’s when they got their momentum. We never got it back and tried to plug those holes.”

Raiders goalkeeper Coltin Gardner made eight saves.
