The Antonio Brown era in New England was almost comically short. That two-week stretch came during the 2019 season, when David Andrews did not play due to blood clots being found in his lungs.
And with a little extra free time on his hands, Andrews ended up using a situation involving AB and Ted Karras to pull a solid prank on his fellow offensive lineman.
Andrews shared his recollection of the story on the latest episode of The Quick Snap Podcast with Brian Hoyer.
“This was like Teddy’s first year starting because I wasn’t playing. And Ted was like, always wanted to do everything right. Big rule follower. Ted’s the best, that’s why he’s had a great career,” Andrews said. “AB was in the hot tub with Ted, and they’re like hanging out, talking. And AB posts a selfie with Ted in the hot tub.”

Andrews said that social media post violated a major Patriots rule that strictly forbade all players and staff from posting photos from inside the locker room or facilities. Andrews said he and unnamed co-conspirators told old-school offensive line coach Dante Scarnecchia that Karras posted the picture online.
“Scar starts the meeting and at the end he goes, ‘Ted, be prepared. Bill [Belichick] saw the picture of you and Antonio in the hot tub and he’s not happy.’ And like, Ted goes ghost-white,” Andrews recalled. “He was so rattled. It was a great way to start our day.”
That mostly harmless prank clearly stuck in Andrews’ memory, and Karras obviously never forgot that moment, either. Karras recently shared his side of that prank on Julian Edelman’s “Games With Names” podcast and revealed he was nervous about the photo as soon as it was taken.
“AB’s like, ‘Man, we gota take a selfie.’ I’m like, ‘I don’t know, man.’ He’s like, ‘No, we’re doing it.’ I’m like, ‘All right,'” Karras told Edelman. “Takes a selfie of me and him in the cold tub, posts it on his story: ‘Cold Tub Dubs with big bro Teddy K.’ I get like 8,000 followers in like four hours. [He] puts my Instagram on. So I’m like kind of like freaking out. That’s like, the number one rule of the facilities: Don’t take a picture inside.”
Karras confirmed Andrews’ account that he essentially blamed Brown immediately.
“I totally fold,” Karras said of his meeting with Scarnecchia. “I’m like, ‘It was AB, Coach. I don’t know what to say.’ I don’t know what to tell him. And he’s like, ‘Dude, relax. I’m just [messing] with you.'”
The prank was clearly a success, but what was Andrews’ inspiration for it?
“I’m not goofing off, but I’m not playing, I’m sick. I’m there,” Andrews reflected. “And I’m trying to help but like, you know, you’re trying to fill your time.”
