It’s been reported that the Pittsburgh Steelers are signing former Browns first-round pick, free safety Jabrill Peppers. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network first reported news of the signing.
The Browns drafted Jabrill Peppers with the 25th overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. That same draft class also included current Browns stars Myles Garrett and David Njoku. Peppers had a successful start to his NFL career in Cleveland, collecting 137 tackles and two interceptions in his two seasons with the franchise. Many Browns fans were sad to see their promising first-rounder dealt to the New York Giants in 2019 as part of the trade for Olivier Vernon and Odell Beckham Jr.

Since being traded from the Browns, Peppers has solidified himself as a reliable veteran in the defensive secondary. Over the last two seasons, he has earned an 84.8 overall PFF grade in 21 games with the New England Patriots. During that time, he recorded 118 combined tackles and three interceptions. While New England’s decision to move on from Peppers wasn’t obvious, it does deliver a good football player to the rival Pittsburgh Steelers.
Peppers is expected to make a significant impact on the Steelers, who should get the best out of him under defensive-minded head coach Mike Tomlin. The Browns are scheduled to face Peppers in their first matchup against Pittsburgh in Week 6.
