Troy Aikman knows it, and the Cowboys know it, too: There are no moral victories in the NFL.
But as the Hall of Fame quarterback said in his weekly visit with “The Musers” on Sportsradio 96.7 FM/1310 The Ticket (KTCK-AM), going toe-to-toe with the defending Super Bowl champions in Week 1, while working around a tricky weather delay, isn’t anything to scoff at.
“Just in general I was impressed with what I saw,” Aikman said Thursday. “They were competitive throughout the ballgame; they had a chance. I just felt that they had good energy. The weather delay, that’s always hard on any football team. I think everybody knew going into it, it was going to be a tough game for Dallas, a difficult game to win. And yet they had a chance to do that. I felt really positive about it.”
Aikman continued: “I heard Brian Schottenheimer’s comments, he said the right thing that ‘There are no moral victories,’ but I gotta believe that they came out of that stadium with a pretty good feel for what they might have. And yeah, a loss is a loss and you don’t feel good about those, but all in all I thought there were a lot of positives to come out of that game.”
Cowboys
Among the things that most impressed the former Cowboys QB in the season opener was the play of his current-day counterpart in Dak Prescott.
Prescott completed 21 of 34 passes in the Week 1 loss for 188 yards, but the numbers don’t tell the full story on his success, especially since there were more than a few dropped balls on catchable passes thrown by Prescott.
“I think Dak was in total command,” Aikman said. “There was one ball to Jake Ferguson down the middle, I’m sure [Dak] would have liked to have gotten a little bit more on that, but there really was not any — not only poor decisions, but there wasn’t any poor ball placement. I just thought he was really sharp in the pocket, decisive, the ball was coming out. When he did get pressure he handled that well.
“Yeah, I think it’s all part of, as he’s continued to play in the league, 32 years old, he’s been playing a while. You’re not gonna do a lot that fools him. He’s got a good understanding of what he’s being asked to do within the offense and knows where his answers are on each and every play.”

This week it’ll be the New York Giants coming to town for Dallas’ home opener, and they bring their own daunting defensive front, as Philadelphia did.
Aikman, however, doesn’t appear worried.
“He definitely was playing at a high level, and I would certainly expect that to continue this week.”
