Former Alabama quarterback, Mac Jones is in line to start for the San Francisco 49ers in week two of the 2025 NFL season, with Brock Purdy set to be sidelined for two to five weeks, according to NFL insider Ian Rapport.
Jones is set to start after signing a two-year contract with the 49ers worth up to $7 million during free agency. The former first-round draft pick has experience as a starter with 49 career starts under his belt to go along with 54 total touchdowns to 44 interceptions and a starter record of 20 wins to 29 losses in stints with the New England Patriots and Jacksonville Jaguars. He has also completed 1,035 of his 1,570 pass attempts and rushed for 419 yards and two touchdowns on 145 rushing attempts as a starter, giving him an overall quarterback rating of 84.9 percent.
Jones now prepares to lead San Francisco under center.
