The New York Jets (0-1) have started their 2025 NFL season. Their next outing is against the Buffalo Bills (1-0) at MetLife Stadium in Week 2.

All week, topics and storylines have been discussed ahead of this battle between AFC foes. In the end, regardless of what is said by players, coaches, media outlets and fans, it always comes down to what unfolds on the field in the NFL.

And once the battle arrives, there will be a few particular things to keep in mind to look out for.

With that, here are five things to watch for during the Jets’ Week 2 game against the Bills:

Ground workNew York Jets running back Breece Hall (20) avoids several Bills players for a gain of several yards during first half action at the Bills home game against the New York Jets at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park on Dec. 29, 2024.

While the Jets will need a balanced offense against the Bills, the ground game will have a huge chance to flex its muscle.

That’s clear to see–Why? Despite falling apart and losing 41-40 to the Bills last week, the Baltimore Ravens saw running back Derrick Henry average 9.4 yards per carry against Buffalo’s defense, good for 169 total yards… and don’t forget his two touchdowns.

New York’s backfield will be licking their chops… specifically Breece Hall as the running back put up 107 total rushing yards himself in Week 1.

Head coach Aaron Glenn is looking for his first win with the Jets. With the Bills being the defending AFC East champions, this could be a daunting task for his team… but will Glenn manage to get them to stand tall against the challenge in his first divisional clash as a head coach?

Keep an eye out for how the Jets start in this one.

The Jets’ secondary did not have a good game against the Steelers in their 34-32 loss in Week 1. Cornerback Sauce Gardner played well but his counterparts around him, specifically fellow corner Brandon Stephens, did not.

Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers had four touchdown passes against New York. The Jets cannot afford another four spot to Bills QB Josh Allen.

Xavier Gipson is gone. He was cut earlier this week after his fumble against the Steelers.

So who steps into that role?

The Jets have options, including elevating Jamaal Pritchett and Keilan Robinson from the practice squad. The on-roster options such as Isaiah Davis and Arian Smith lack experience.

Fields playing his part?Sep 7, 2025; East Rutherford, New Jersey, USA; New York Jets quarterback Justin Fields (7) walks off the field after losing to the Pittsburgh Steelers at MetLife Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Wendell Cruz-Imagn Images

Ending on an easy question: Will quarterback Justin Fields backup is strong Week 1 efforts with another good game on Sunday? The Bills had a leaky secondary in their opener, much like the Jets did.
