Cleveland Browns quarterback Joe Flacco is tied eternally to his 2013 Super Bowl XLVII championship season with the Baltimore Ravens. However, in week 2 of the 2024 season, Ravens defensive coordinator Zach Orr must see him as he is, another foe behind enemy lines.

Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Trey Hendrickson (91) and Cleveland Browns quarterback Joe Flacco (15) talk after the fourth quarter of the NFL Week 1 game at Huntington Bank Field in Cleveland on Sunday, Sept. 7, 2025.

Flacco threw two interceptions versus the Cincinnati Bengals this past Sunday in the Browns’ 17-16 week 1 defeat. Orr should be looking to exploit Flacco with hefty blitz packages and schemes, noting that Flacco’s limited mobility should make things more manageable than they were versus the Buffalo Bills. Flacco was sacked twice in the loss but threw for 290 passing yards and one touchdown.

Flacco’s resume is keeping him employed in the latter years of his NFL career, but his skill set isn’t a probing threat to what the Ravens have to offer on the defensive side of the football. Despite struggles last week, the Ravens’ defense still forced the Bills into four punts and a less than 50-percent conversion rate on third-downs.

Ultimately, Flacco’s fame can be attributed to his time in Baltimore, but his feat may be well approached by the way of the same franchise that got him a Super Bowl title. Orr will have a tough time forgiving himself if he lets an old friend shred his defense, or worse, his Ravens enter week 3 of the season with a 0-2 record.
