GREEN BAY (WLUK) — Aside from the Packers’ dominant start to the 2025 season against division rivals the Lions on Sunday, the topic of conversation, especially online, was centered around how much blue was inside Lambeau Field.
“All in all, I was really happy with our performance. I thought our fans that showed up brought great energy, and the fans that sold tickets to all those Lions fans gotta be better,” said Packers head coach Matt LeFleur after Sunday’s game.
Of course, when they’re playing a team that is closer in proximity to Wisconsin, it’s a given that there will be more opposing fans compared to teams that are across the country.
“99.99 percent of us, we’re not mean, we welcome these opposing fans in,” says Kyle Cousineau, a die-hard Packers fan. “But, it is a little concerning when you see the number of Honolulu blue shirts, jerseys, jackets, and hoodies.”
The Packers organization said this when FOX 11 asked about the number of Lions fans at Sunday’s game:
…We always recommend that if ticket holders are selling their tickets and want to ensure Packers fans are sitting in their seats, they should do their best to sell and transfer the tickets to someone they know who is a fan – a friend, family member or neighbor. For fans who prefer to sell their tickets digitally on the secondary marketplace in the event that they can’t use the tickets themselves, we recommend utilizing NFL Ticket Exchange.
But sometimes, people simply need to let their tickets go. Local reseller TicketKing sees it all the time.
“I mean, we would prefer to sell to Packers fans, obviously, just so we have more Packers fans, but away team’s…other fan’s money is just as good as anyone else’s,” says TicketKing manager Travis Loftus.
Lambeau Field is also a major tourist attraction.
“There’s a lot of away fans that want to experience Lambeau Field; it’s an iconic place, and they want to check it out, so I totally get why a lot of people want to come to Lambeau, to see the stadium,” Loftus adds.
“Oh yeah, first time in Wisconsin, first time in Green Bay, iconic stadium, I’m a big sports fan so, it’s awesome to be here,” says Jeremy Alexander, a Commanders fan who traveled from D.C. to be at Thursday’s game.
“Bucket list,” says Commanders fan Brad Davis from Birmingham, Alabama. “Go to Lambeau and see the Commanders play the Packers on the legendary stadium.”
Commanders fans responded to the frustration felt by Packers fans.
“We’re used to it, I feel their frustrations, but D.C. fans, we’re generally nice people and were happy to be here, it’s a nice road trip for us,” Alexander says.
“I think embrace it man, they got some good fans here and were just here to have fun, have a good time, not here to start any trouble, but we are here to win, you know, but I think embrace the fan,s man, have fun, it’s all a game,” adds Jason Davis from Palm Beach, Flordia.
“Like he said, it’s a game, we’re here to have fun, it’s going to be a little jawing back and forth, but at the end of the day, it’s just football and we’re here to have a good time,” says Jeremy Voccia from Palm Beach, Florida.
It’s a difficult argument for Packers fans to make, especially as a fan base that’s known for traveling well.
“I mean, they’re known for going into stadiums and getting the ‘Go Pack Go’ chant. We love to take over other stadiums, and I think it’s a great thing for our community to have different fans from different cities come and experience, they’re going to be willing to spend more money at the restaurants and businesses as opposed to just the same people that would come here over and over and over again,” Loftus adds.
“I’m a Green Bay resident, small business owner in Green Bay, so I understand that the lifeblood of this city is the Green Bay Packers,” Cousineau adds. “Opposing fans coming to Green Bay is great, we have a lot of hotel rooms that need to be filled, a lot of barstools that need to be filled.”
Cousineau has been helping season ticket holders sell their tickets to other Packers fans for more than a decade, all for free.
He says it’s less about excluding other fan bases and more about ensuring Packers fans, especially those from out of town, get the first chance at the Lambeau experience.
“So, I’m not saying don’t come here, but I’m just trying to facilitate, if you’re going to sell these tickets, why not sell them to a Packers fan?” he says.
After all the online chatter about opposing fans and encouraging Packers fans to flood the stadium, it clearly sank in before Thursday’s matchup with Washington.
“First before I start, I want to give a big shout out to our crowd, that was the best. . . gold package crowd that I’ve been a part of in 7 years here, so definitely felt a ton of energy in the stadium, the white out was amazing, and they were loud,” LeFleur said at the podium at the start of Thursday’s post-game presser.
Cousineau adds that now that the Lions’ streak of beating the Packers at home has ended, he doesn’t think they’ll be coming back to Lambeau in such strong numbers, anyway. But he hopes to not see so much blue and orange or purple and gold when they play the Bears and Vikings this year.
For season ticket holders who may need help finding other Packers fans to sell their tickets to, Cousineau says to reach out to him on social media. You can find him on Facebook at Kyle Cousineau and on X at @KCousineau09
