Jackson takes on Mayfield under the lights at Robert Fife Stadium

The Jackson Polar Bears take on Mayfield on Sept. 12 at home at Robert Fife Stadium in what’s shaping up to be a solid Week 4 matchup. Jackson is coming off of a loss last week to New York-based St. Francis with a finishing score of 42-35.

Mayfield didn’t get anything going on their next drive, punting the ball back.

Jackson near the goal line, injury timeout
Quarterback Lucas Ecrement decided to keep the ball and make a break for it, bringing Jackson to the five yard line.
Moments later, Jackson’s Corey Jacobs goes down for an injury timeout.
A flag is down on Mayfield for a personal foul. This brings Jackson to the 1 yard line.

Jackson’s #21 Khirye Tyler nearly picked off a pass on third down for Mayfield, leading to fourht and short. Mayfield decided to go for it, but failed to convert.

Big play for Jackson brings them down the field
#10 Max Cowles had a lucrative reception to start Jackson’s drive and move the chains. A timeout is called, and the clock is stopped with 15 seconds remaining. Jackson is near the 35 yard line.

Mayfield fail to convert on third down, and they punt the ball away.

Jackson struggles to find the end zone
Jackson’s Rocco Norch ran with defenders to the end zone as a pass made its way downfield. It appeared as though Norch was able to haul it in for the score, but the ball got away from him on impact, in part thanks to a strong defensive presence.

Mayfield stopped behind the line for a big turnover
Following the timeout, Mayfield elected to go for it, but Jackson found the ball carrier well behind the line of scrimmage for a big turnover on downs. Jackson will start their drive midfield.

Mayfield still without a score, timeout late in the half
After a flag brought what was a 3rd and short five yards back, Mayfield managed to move the chains for a new set of downs.
Then, a long pass down the field on second down intended for receiver Jayden Haynes was knocked incomplete, but was enough to draw a pass interference call, moving the ball down the field once again.
The following drive came to a midfield 3rd and short. A run by Mayfield’s Ben Koret was not enough to convert, and with less than five minutes in the half, a timeout stops the clock.

Jackson field goal attempt is good, brings their lead to 10
After an unfavorable 4th and long, Jackson attempted a field goal from around the 30 yard line. The kick made it through the uprights, bringing the score to 10-0 Jackson.

Receiver Max Cowles had a big play to start the drive, which brought Jackson well within field goal range. Then, Jackson managed to find the end zone with a run to the outside. The point after attempt is good.

Faced with a 4th and short scenario, Mayfield elected to punt after a time out. Jackson brought the ball to the Mayfield 49 yard line, where they will start their drive.
