Packers coach Matt LaFleur confirms Jayden Reed broke his collarbone
LaFleur said the Packers receiver will miss some time this season after breaking his collarbone in the first quarter of the Commanders game.
Jayden Reed suffered a broken collarbone early in the Green Bay Packers’ 27-18 win over the Washington Commanders on “Thursday Night Football.”
Packers head coach Matt LaFleur confirmed the diagnosis after the game.
“He’s going to miss a lot of time,” LaFleur said.
The injury happened during the Packers’ opening possession. The Packers wide receiver had caught what he believed to be a 39-yard touchdown pass, but a penalty back at the offensive line wiped it away. But that was the least of the concerns.
Reed came down hard near the right sideline pylon after being tackled. He was slow to get up and soon made his way to the locker room.
The penalty sent the Packers back 10 yards and they later failed to convert a fourth and short.
But the bigger issue was the health of Reed, who didn’t return to the game and now is heading to injured reserve where he’ll miss several weeks.

The Packers’ third-year wide receiver who battled a foot injury during training camp caught a deep touchdown pass from Love down the right sideline on a 3rd and 9 that didn’t count due to a penalty. But it was clear he was hurt when he didn’t get up right away.
Reed went to the locker room with a towel over his head and was ruled out later in the game.
LaFleur, in his post-game press conference, announced Reed has a broken collarbone.

Packers wide receiver depth chart
Reed’s injury puts another dent into the Packers’ wide receiver depth.
The Packers are already down one of their top deep threats in Christian Watson to begin the season. Watson is recovering from a torn ACL, an injury that he sustained in the 2024 season finale on Jan. 5. The earliest that Watson can return in a game for the Packers is Week 6.
While Reed will be out for the forseeable future, LaFleur is confident in the wide receivers on the roster.
“Fortunately for us, I feel like we have a pretty deep wide receiver room and there’s going to be opportunities for other guys to step up and take advantage of,” LaFleur said.
These players include Romeo Doubs, Matthew Golden, Dontayvion Wicks, Savion Williams and Malik Heath. And tight end Tucker Kraft, of course, is also heavily involved in the passing game.
Kraft was a beast on the field Thursday night. The third-year tight end led the Packers in receiving with 124 yards on six catches and a touchdown.
Veteran Mecole Hardman Jr., who is on the Packers’ practice squad, will likely be called up to fill the roster spot.
