The Rams desperately need a difference maker at tight end. With long-tenured Tyler Higbee not getting any younger and Colby Parkinson nursing an injury that will likely see him miss Sunday’s game against the Titans, rookie second-round pick Terrance Ferguson may see the field for the first time in the regular season. Ferguson, out of Oregon, is sort of a different archetype at the position than Higbee and Parkinson, and can use his above-average speed to help take the cap off the secondary.
On Friday, Sean McVay was sure enough asked about the injury and what it could mean for Ferguson. McVay said the injury “could” open up more possibilities for the rookie against the Titans on Sunday. Ferguson found himself only playing special teams during Week 1, as the organization is making sure not to rush him into a consistent role on a weekly basis.

“It could. I think a lot of it depends on how the game unfolds,” McVay said. “We have some different packages, different personnel groupings that we can activate. Terrance is a guy that we want to be able to figure out where we can start to allow him to find his role and continue to grow. He did miss some valuable time with that groin. I thought he did a nice job with the things that he could control last week. He’s had a couple good weeks of practice so that is something that could be a possibility.”
The reports have been that he has impressed in practice and has been able to make an impact on the field throughout camp.
“Terrance is a guy that we want to be able to figure out where we can start and to be able to allow him to be able to find his role and continue to grow,” McVay said earlier in the week.
The rookie no doubt has hunger to get on the field, especially since he had an injury that sidelined him for a portion of training camp. Many around the organization believe that he can make a positive impact in both the pass and run game, and this weekend may be his first test to see what he can bring to the table.
