The New York Jets‘ revamped offensive line had a challenge against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 1. Despite the 34-32 loss, the offense obviously wasn’t to blame, and starting quarterback Justin Fields was outstanding. Fields accounted for nearly 300 yards of offense and three touchdowns.
Most notably, Fields was only sacked once. That’s against a Steelers defensive line that features Cam Heyward, T.J. Watt, and Alex Highsmith. Rookie offensive tackle Armand Membou was outstanding, and Olu Fashanu was a difference-maker as a run blocker.

Membou, the rookie No. 7 overall selection, was near-flawless in his debut according to the analytics. The former Missouri standout didn’t even allow a single pressure in pass protection, per Pro Football Focus. Membou pitched a shutout against a stout Steelers defensive line in 26 true pass-blocking snaps.
Fashanu was a bit more up-and-down. The sophomore left tackle was assigned blame for the lone sack given up by the Jets’ offensive line. PFF credited Fashanu with allowing six total pressures. He was better as a run blocker, earning a 67.1 grade in that department, the second-best score among the Jets’ offensive linemen.
Both Membou and Fashanu performed like building blocks. Fashanu must clean up some technical aspects in pass protection, but was otherwise stellar. The Jets should be mostly thrilled with their young offensive tackles following Week 1.
