The San Francisco 49ers traveled in Week 1 to take on the Seattle Seahawks at Lumen Field and earned a 17-13 win. Now, they remain on the road for another NFC battle in Week 2, this time with the New Orleans Saints at Caesars Superdome.

San Francisco didn’t look their best and lost some key players to injury, so even though they won the game, they came out worse heading into their second contest.

New Orleans, on the other hand, fell to the Arizona Cardinals 20-13 in their opener with an ugly game plan from first-year head coach Kellen Moore.

While there will be plenty of attention on the 49ers for NFL purposes, they also have a few fantasy-relevant players who are in consideration to start in most leagues. As San Francisco prepares for their second game of the year, let’s look at what fantasy owners should do with their 49ers in Week 2.

QB Mac Jones: Sit

With Brock Purdy out due to turf toe, Jones steps in as the starter. We’ve seen this in the past in New England and Jacksonville, as we feel confident with Jones on the bench. There’s a chance that the former first-round pick looks better in Kyle Shanahan’s system, but no one should feel confident in that yet.

RB Christian McCaffrey: Start

McCaffrey came into Week 1 battling an injury, and he ended up as the third-best running back in fantasy football. His 69 rushing yards on 3.1 yards per attempt and nine receptions for 73 yards brought him to 23.2 points. With Jones in, expect McCaffrey to get a similar workload, if not more as an outlet out of the backfield.

WR Ricky Pearsall: Start

Pearsall looked really good against the Seahawks, catching four passes for 108 yards on seven targets, including a 45-yarder. The offense will be different without Purdy getting him the ball, but as the top receiver, he’ll draw either Kool-Aid McKinstry or old friend Isaac Yiadom as matchups. He should be able to win both.

D/ST: Start

San Francisco’s defense surprised some people in Week 1, putting up 10 fantasy points, as they allowed Seattle to gain 230 yards and score 13 points. They had two fumble recoveries and one sack, making them the seventh-best defense in fantasy football in Week 1. Saleh’s unit should be able to do even better against Spencer Rattler and company in Week 2.
