TAMPA — When the Tampa Bay Buccaneers play their home opener in September, they will honor the past with a different look.

The team announced Tuesday that the white jerseys and pants from their inaugural season in 1976 will be worn for the Sept. 21 game against the New York Jets at Raymond James Stadium.

The Bucs are bringing back the uniforms that day as part of their celebration of the franchise’s 50th season.

While the team has returned to its Creamsicle roots for multiple throwback games since 2009, this is the first time since the franchise’s debut season that the original uniforms will be worn in a game, according to the team’s website.

“The ’76 Jersey represents a piece of Buccaneers history and serves as a tribute to the generations of fans and players who shaped this franchise,” said Buccaneers Chief Operating Officer Brian Ford.

The ’76 Jersey is available for purchase online at shop.buccaneers.com and in-person at the team store at RayJay.
