Suddenly, the Washington Commanders’ coaching staff is under heavy scrutiny.
Thursday night, the Commanders‘ offense struggled throughout the game against the Packers, losing 27-18. Receivers could not get open. The offensive line was unable to protect Jayden Daniels. Daniels, when blitzed, could not find running lanes for big gains as he often did in 2024.
Friday, football analyst Warren Sharp didn’t hold back in his opinion regarding Washington’s coaching. Here are a few of the comments he made about the Commanders’ coaching decisions against the Packers.
“This, to me, is what a coaching mismatch really looks like on both sides of the football. I really felt Dan Quinn was outmatched by Matt LeFleur, and Kliff Kingsbury was completely outmatched by Jeff Hafley.”The strategy Washington entered this game was wrong to be begin. The Commanders came out in this game and averaged 29.2 seconds per play in the first half, while last week against the NY Giants, it was 25.3…It felt like it bred a lack of aggression overall.””Right before halftime, it was absolutely absurd and embarrassing clock management. Trailing 14-3, 1st & 10 at their 43 with 2:02 remaining. They played for what they hoped would be a game-ending field goal. They had three timeouts, they didn’t use those timeouts. They weren’t trying to take shots to get into touchdown range to get into the red zone.”Washington’s lack of aggression showed in their play calling, in their pace of play…In the second half I was not seeing any urgency, no type of halftime adjustments at all.””Through three quarters, Jayden Daniels had 88 (passing) yards on 24 attempts. That is laughable.””A lot of this is simply coaching. The coaching staff of Green Bay ran circles around Kliff Kingsbury, and Dan Quinn did not make any adjustments.”
Wow, pretty strong analysis and commentary from Sharp. The Commanders lost, fell to 1-1, and will not play again until the Raiders come to town on September 21.
Until then, Commanders Wire hopes that Quinn and his coaching staff will be prepared for Week 3, and that Commanders players will have bought into the game plan.
