Following Iowa football’s 47-7 win over UMass (0-3) from Kinnick Stadium on Saturday that gave Kirk Ferentz sole possession of the most victories by a Big Ten head coach in the conference’s history, the program unveiled a touching tribute video on their social media platforms.

It highlighted the plethora of accomplishments by their legendary leader throughout his 27 years at the helm.

Ferentz took the Iowa head coaching job following the retirement of beloved Hawkeyes head coach Hayden Fry ahead of the 1999 college football season. In his nearly three decades guiding the program, Ferentz has led the Hawkeyes to two Big Ten regular-season championships, 22 bowl game invites and 10 bowl game victories.

Along the way, Ferentz has produced 94 NFL draft selections and impacted countless other players’ lives through his coaching and mentorship.

As the Hawkeyes begin Big Ten play on Friday, Sept. 19, at Rutgers (3-0) from SHI Stadium in Piscataway, N.J., the nation’s longest-tenured head coach will look to tack on to his record with a victory over the Scarlet Knights.

For reference, the next-closest active Big Ten coach is Penn State‘s James Franklin, with 104 wins over his now 12 years as the Nittany Lions’ head coach.
