The Chicago Bears head up north to face the Detroit Lions this afternoon at Ford Field in Detroit.

Both NFC North rivals enter Week 2 at 0-1. Detroit is coming off an embarrassing Week 1 loss at Green Bay, raising concerns about its offensive line and rushing attack. Coach Dan Campbell’s group needs stronger protection up front and more consistency from quarterback Jared Goff to steady the offense.

The Bears, meanwhile, blew a 17-6 lead in the fourth quarter last week against the Minnesota Vikings, giving up 21 unanswered points in a stunning collapse at Soldier Field.

Second-year quarterback Caleb Williams is already facing scrutiny, but he finished 21-of-35 for 1 passing touchdown and added another on the ground.

While the offense slowed down in the second half, it was the defense that collapsed, surrendering three straight scoring drives in the fourth quarter to Minnesota. With starters Jaylon Johnson and T.J. Edwards expected back, the Bears hope to shore up coverage and tackling in order to slow Detroit’s playmakers and force mistakes.

4 Things to Watch

1. Lions’ Offensive Line Health

Left tackle Taylor Decker is questionable after missing practice. Giovanni Manu has been preparing to fill in if needed.

2. Return of Bears’ Defensive Starters

Jaylon Johnson and T.J. Edwards are both expected back and practicing without limitations. Their presence should help Chicago’s pass coverage and run-stop.

3. Bears vs. Lions Rushing Attacks

Detroit runs with Gibbs and Montgomery, who combined for strong previous seasons. Bears will try to defend the run tight and force Goff into throws early.

4. Caleb Williams’ Growth Under Pressure

Williams faced scrutiny in Week 1. Now, with more support and returning defensive help, he must make cleaner decisions under duress to keep drives alive.

Predictions

Detroit’s home-field, combined with greater continuity at key offensive spots, gives them a slight edge. If Decker plays, that helps protect Goff and establish run/pass balance.

Chicago’s defense will be improved with Johnson and Edwards back, but the Lions likely have too many weapons and should stretch the field well enough to make it a competitive game.

Projected Final Score: Lions 28, Bears 20
