Cincinnati Bengals defeat Jacksonville Jaguars to move to 2-0

Enquirer beat reporter Kelsey Conway reviews the Bengals’ win over the Jaguars

Cincinnati Bengals rookie defensive end Shemar Stewart suffered a right ankle injury during the fourth quarter of the team’s home-opening NFL Week 2 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars at Paycor Stadium.

Stewart appeared to get rolled up on by teammate Logan Wilson. He was helped to the sideline, and couldn’t put weight on his foot.

Stewart went to the blue medical tent for evaluation. He went from the tent to the locker room.

The Bengals ruled Stewart out a short time later. After the game, Stewart left the locker room on crutches.

“Extremely talented,” CBS color analyst Logan Ryan said of Stewart. “They can’t afford for him to go down today as well as Joe Burrow.”

Jordan Schultz reported Sunday night that Stewart is believed to have avoided a major injury, and is considered “week to week.”

On July 27, Stewart practiced with the team for the first time since reaching an agreement with the team on a rookie contract July 25.

Stewart was the Bengals’ first-round pick in the 2025 NFL draft, 17th overall. He did not agree to his rookie deal with the Bengals before the rookie report date.

Stewart, who played three seasons for the Texas A&M Aggies, turns 22 years old in November. Stewart had 4.5 sacks over three college seasons.
