NASHVILLE — A Tennessee Titans (0-2) 33-19 defeat at home to the Los Angeles Rams (2-0) on Sunday showcased the gap between the team that drafted No. 1 overall this year and a legitimate Super Bowl contender. No one expected Tennessee to make the playoffs in 2025 under coach Brian Callahan, but the early returns are concerning.

A rebuilt offensive line group and a coaching staff that tailored an offseason program to cut down on SINs (self-inflicted negatives) leads the NFL in sacks allowed (11) and penalties (23).

The way Brian Callahan’s Titans lose is most disappointing

The Titans were not favored at the Denver Broncos (1-1) in Week 1 or hosting Los Angeles in Week 2.

With No. 1 overall pick at quarterback Cam Ward looking like he gives Callahan a legitimate option under center, the scrutiny on the coach and the organization ratchets up with each loss. Callahan is now 3-16 as the coach in Tennessee. The only worse start to a tenure of the six men that have led the club in the “Titans Era” (1999-present) belongs to Ken Whisenhunt.

Controlling owner Amy Adams Strunk fired Whisenhunt seven games into the 2016 season after an overall record of 3-20.

“Yeah, our urgency is high to get a win,” said Callahan on Monday. “That hasn’t changed. It’s been high for two weeks now. I mean, it’ not for, for lack of urgency or lack of intent. Certainly would love to get to win so that our players can feel that feeling and we can get ourselves in the right track, but those are things that we’re all working hard towards.

“t’s just one of those things that when you’ve lost the amount of games that we have over the time that we’ve done it you’re searching for that feeling and searching for that performance that allows you to go win a game. And then thus far through two games, a lot of good things, but ultimately not enough to win them. And we got to find a way to go in a game at the end of the day. And that’s always going to be our goal and our urgency is incredibly high to go do that.”
