The Carolina Panthers may be zeroing in on some much-needed help in the middle of their defense.

According to Charlie Clifford of NBC 5 Cincinnati, the Panthers have claimed linebacker Maema Njongmeta off the Cincinnati Bengals’ practice squad.

A native of Ngaoundéré, Cameroon, Njongmeta attended the University of Wisconsin from 2019 to 2023. He played in 32 games for the Badgers over three seasons—collecting 158 combined tackles (21 for a loss), 6.5 sacks, an interception and three forced fumbles as well as a third-team All-Big Ten nod in 2022.

Njongmeta then signed with the Bengals as an undrafted free agent in the spring of 2024. He went on to appear in 17 games as a rookie—recording 13 combined tackles, two fumble recoveries and one start.

371 of Njongmeta’s 401 snaps for Cincinnati came on special teams.

Carolina also worked out former Buffalo Bills linebacker Baylon Spector on Monday.
