Blackhawks Fall To Bears, 27-6

Bloomer junior Logan VanRemmen (20) catches a senior Zach Asher pass and carries the ball for a 39 yard gain Friday night, Sept. 12, 2025, in Bloomer against the Barron Bears.

Despite beating Barron in practically every statistical category, Bloomer fell to Barron on Friday night, Sept. 12, 27-6. The two stats that doomed Bloomer were turnovers and points. Bloomer’s defense continued to show signs of dominance and their offense turned in their best performance of the year, but timely miscues cost the Blackhawks too many scoring opportunities.

Blackhawks Fall To Bears, 27-6

Bloomer junior Logan VanRemmen (20) carries the ball for a 39 yard gain Friday night, Sept. 12, 2025, in Bloomer against the Barron Bears.

“This one hurts. We played with heart. We played with intensity. We made so many big plays. We just couldn’t quite put it together when the opportunities presented themselves,” said head coach Tyler Mickelson.

Bloomer had the first scoring chance of the game after a long Logan VanRemmen reception set the Blackhawks up inside the red zone in the first quarter. However, on the next play the wet conditions got the best of Bloomer, as the ball slipped out Zach Asher’s hands and Barron recovered. That was the first of three times Bloomer would travel inside Barron’s 15 yard line and come away with no points in the first half.

“Barron was big, strong, and physical. They’re a good football team,” said Mickelson. “You have to give them credit for making plays when they did. At the end of the day, we matched their physicality and we were in positions to win. It just didn’t happen tonight.”

Barron converted that turnover into a touchdown drive and took the lead 7-0. Bloomer responded by marching right down the field into the red zone again. That’s when a pass went off the fingertips of Logan VanRemmen and right into the hands of Barron’s safety. Bloomer’s defense stood strong. After a stop on fourth and inches, the offense took over and got the ball inside the redzone again. With just :17 seconds left in the half, Asher’s attempted pass into the endzone was tipped at the line of scrimmage and Barron intercepted and rumbled 60 yards to set themselves up at the 30 with :02 seconds left. On the next play, Barron connected on a hail Mary to make the score 14-0 at half.

Bloomer took the opening drive of the second half into Barron territory before stalling out. After a Barron punt, Bloomer’s offense turned the ball over again on an interception on the sideline, but this time it was returned for a TD to make the score 21-0 in the third.

Bloomer seniors Robbie Latz (44) and Orin Buresh (0) wrap up Barron senior David Pond while Bloomer senior Collin Robinson (1) comes to assist Friday night, Sept. 12, against the Bears.

“It was wet, rainy, and sloppy. Both teams had to handle the elements. It was an absolute battle,” said Mickelson. “I’m proud of the effort we put on the field in front of our fans.”

Bloomer scored their lone touchdown of the game on a 30 yard touchdown run by Zach Asher. Barron scored a TD of their own in the fourth and the final score ended at 27-6. Bloomer hosts Hayward in what could be considered a must-win game if the Blackhawks hope to return to the postseason.

“There’s no easy way to put it—every game from here on out is the biggest game of the year. We have high expectations. We have goals. Goals very few thought were possible for our team.

“We need to play a clean game on Friday and we need to execute at a high level. And, we need the community to pack the stands and get loud,” said Mickelson.
