The Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced that former Colorado safety Shilo Sanders, the son of Deion Sanders, will wear No. 28 for the rookie minicamp.
Sanders was not selected in the 2025 NFL draft and instead signed with Tampa Bay as an undrafted free agent. He was one of 15 undrafted players to sign with the Bucs and one of two safeties.

The No. 28 jersey was most notably worn by Warrick Dunn from 1997 to 2008. Recently, the number was on the backs of cornerback Vernon Hargreaves III and running back Leonard Fournette.
Sanders will face an uphill battle to make the Buccaneers’ 53-man roster as an undrafted player, but the hard-hitting safety might have a chance if he succeeds on special teams and shows his turnover-making ability.
The Bucs have Pro Bowl safety Antoine Winfield Jr. as one of their two starting safeties, but the other starting spot looks more up in the air.
It will be fascinating to hear what head coach Todd Bowles says about Sanders’ progression throughout training camp.

In two seasons at Colorado, Sanders racked up 137 tackles, three tackles for a loss, one sack, one interception, five pass breakups, three fumble recoveries and five forced fumbles.
