Daniel Jones was excellent in the Indianapolis Colts’ Week 2 win over the Denver Broncos, but one area in particular where he excelled was against the blitz.
The Broncos’ defense blitzed Jones on the majority of his dropbacks. Of Jones’ 34 pass attempts on Sunday, 25 of them came against the blitz.

However, that didn’t slow down Jones and the Colts‘ offense. According to NFL Next Gen Stats, Jones was 16-for-25 passing for 265 yards and a touchdown versus the blitz.
Those 265 yards were the fourth-most against five-plus pass rushers in a game in the Next Gen Stats era, which began in 2016.
This performance from Jones is, in part, a product of the Colts’ offensive line play and how well that unit handled those designed pressures. The Colts’ running backs and tight ends were a part of that equation as well.
But in addition to that, this performance speaks to one of the things Shane Steichen mentioned when he first named Jones the Colts’ starting quarterback.

A big reason Jones won the job was because of his consistency. That not only referred to his efficiency as a passer, but everything that goes into playing the quarterback position, including what takes place pre-snap.
Jones’ ability to recognize what might be coming from a defense, along with knowing how to attack those looks and where his outlet options are in the passing game, was crucial to his success against the blitz.
Through two games this season, Jones has the 10th-highest completion rate when facing the blitz, according to PFF. Jones is also sixth in yards per attempt.
