The Denver Broncos fought hard against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, and one of the best plays of the game came on a scramble drill when quarterback Bo Nix connected with wide receiver Troy Franklin.
In the second quarter, Nix was flushed out, but delivered a perfect strike to Franklin while on the run. The play was instrumental in setting up a three-yard touchdown pass to Franklin later in the drive, to put Denver up 14-13.

NFL Network analyst Brian Baldinger recently broke down the play on Twitter/X. “Let’s watch Bo Nix on the perfect example of a scramble drill,” said Baldinger. “We hear about scramble drills all the time, let me show you exactly what it looks like.
“Alright, here (Nix) is on a five-step drop, he’s going to hitch once, hitch twice; doesn’t like it, now he’s got pressure from Grady Stewart, so he bounces around. Now, you get outside here. This is the play beyond the Xs and Os. One person goes deep, one person goes short. And Troy Franklin went deep right there for that 42-yard completion.”
On the drive, Franklin had 58 receiving yards, along with the three-yard touchdown, part of Franklin’s big, eight-catch, 89-yard day.

The Broncos travel to California to face off against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 3, their first AFC West head-to-head matchup of the season.
