The New York Jets are turning to the next page of their 2025 NFL season against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Following an offseason filled with changes all across the organization, this first road matchup of 2025 against the Bucs is highly anticipated.
But before we even get to kickoff, there will be a lot of Jets-related discussions and conversations to be had throughout the coming days.
With that, here are five storylines to watch for during the lead up to Jets (0-2) against the Buccaneers (2-0):
Tyrod time
The big news out of New York this week: Starting quarterback Justin Fields is out because of the concussion he sustained against the Buffalo Bills last week. It’s Tyrod Taylor time.
In relief for Fields, Taylor was better in a short time played. He was 7-for-11 passing with 56 yards and a touchdown. However, that was against some of Buffalo’s backups.
Visiting Todd
Todd Bowles was the head coach of the Jets from 2015 to 2018. He had a 24-40 record leading the Green and White and will see his former team.
Ground games
The Jets rely on their ground game on offense and it’s well known. The Bucs have a positive record this season in the same category.
Tampa Bay ranks ninth with 135.0 yards per game. New York sits in sixth at an average of 141.0.
Whoever controls the ground could win this one.
Epic battle could brew
But the passing attack will still factor in between Taylor and Bucs quarterback Baker Mayfield. Eyes might be elsewhere, though.
When the Jets defense is on the field, an epic matchup between cornerback Sauce Gardner and wide receiver Mike Evans will be one to watch.
And the Jets have wide receiver Garrett Wilson, too. He’ll battle a secondary led by defensive back Antonie Winfield Jr.
Early Aaron frustrations?
It’s still super early. Head coach Aaron Glenn has plenty of time in New York to sort things out. But he is already advising fans that it is going to take time.
The concerns from Jets nation are understandable a bit. It has been a long time.
