Brock Purdy might suit up for the San Francisco 49ers in Week 3 against his home state team, the Arizona Cardinals, on Sunday, Sept. 21.

The 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said at practice on Wednesday, Sept. 17, that the team’s starting quarterback and former Gilbert Perry High School standout “wasn’t limited last week,” but “does have a chance to play.”

He was out for San Francisco’s 26-21 road win at the New Orleans Saints from toe and left shoulder injuries on Sept. 14. He suffered those injuries during San Francisco’s season-opening 17-13 home win over the Seattle Seahawks on Sept. 7.

Purdy was seen by the media as a limited participant during the individual drills of the 49ers’ early open portion of practice on Wednesday, Sept. 17.

Five days before the 49ers-Saints game, Shanahan called Purdy becoming available at New Orleans a “long shot,” and it was “possible” Purdy could miss multiple games from his toe pain. Shanahan added that he and the 49ers’ general manager John Lynch will monitor Purdy’s toe injury on a week-to-week basis.

Purdy was replaced by Mac Jones in New Orleans. Jones finished 26-of-39 for 279 yards and three touchdowns in his starting debut for the 49ers.

Purdy told the media after that New Orleans game, “We’ll see” regarding Purdy’s status entering Week 3.
