Rookie DL Elijah Simmons will have a chance to play with the Bucs.
The Arizona Cardinals lost some depth for their defensive line they potentially could have used with the loss of L.J. Collier to a knee injury. Rookie defensive tackle Elijah Simmons, who was on the Cardinals’ practice squad, is now on an NFL active roster, but it isn’t with the Cardinals.
According to the NFL transaction list on Wednesday, Simmons was signed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to their 53-man roster. The Bucs lost Calijah Kancey for the season with a torn pectoral muscle. They signed Simmons, who is basically a traditional two-down, run-stopping nose tackle.
Simmons signed with the Cardinals as a rookie free agent out of Tennessee. He impressed in the offseason and training camp, but got caught in the numbers game with the defensive line.
The Cardinals placed Collier and cornerback Garrett Williams on injured reserve on Wednesday. After other roster moves, there is still a vacancy on the 53-man roster and on the practice squad.
