Thursday night games are few and far between for the Brookville Raiders football team.
A trip to Bradford on a Thursday night? It’ll happen this week for the first time.
The 0-4 Raiders trek to 1-3 Bradford for what’s a Division 2 matchup between former District 9 League rivals. The Raiders have beaten the Owls six straight times, including a 48-21 victory in last year’s season-opener also at Parkway Field.
Then on Friday, the 1-3 Central Clarion Wildcats travel to 3-1 Brockway in a non-divisional game.
Here’s a closer look at this week’s games:
Brookville (0-4) at
Bradford (1-3)
The Raiders look to avoid their worst start since beginning the 2008’s 1-8 season with eight straight losses. The Owls’ lone win came against Otto-Eldred, a 28-16 victory in Week 2. Since then, the Owls lost to Punxsutawney (58-13) and DuBois (59-20). They started with a season-opening 70-33 loss to Port Allegany.
Unlike the pass-happy Owls of recent years, this year’s version is run-first led by speedy senior Logan Kohler (40-326, 3 TDs) and Tommy Langdon (48-141, 2 TDs).
Kohler leads the team with five touchdowns, two on kick returns.
The Raiders debuted Sam Krug as their workhorse running back last week as he rushed for 81 yards on 26 carries with a touchdown. The Raiders average 182 yards per game offensively as quarterback Trenton Colgan (53-for-97, 544 yards, 4 TDs, 3 Ints.) runs the passing game with Krug (16-198, 1 TD) and Hayden Freeman (13-171, 3 TDs) his top receiving targets.
With just 159 yards rushing in four games, perhaps that will be the key number Thursday against the Owls, who have given up 179 rushing yards per game.
Defensively, Dante Morey (35), Blake Porter (27) and Aaron Turner (23) are the top tacklers. Chase Nimmo leads the unit with four sacks.
Central Clarion (1-3) at
Brockway (3-1)
The Wildcats trek to Roverland to face a Brockway team that’s won three straight games, although they had to hold off a comeback effort from winless Brookville last Friday.
The Wildcats are coming off a tough 24-21 loss to Punxsutawney as the Chucks scored 10 points in the final five minutes to rally for the win.
Ethan Rex (65-359), who ran for all three Wildcats TDs last week, leads the running game while quarterback Carter Hindman (25-for-57, 345 yards) heads the passing attack with Mason Burford (13-168) his top receiving target.
For Brockway, it’s quarterback Aiden Patton (56-for-90, 761 yards, 6 TDs) and Caleb Daugherty (18-242) leading the passing game while Collin Weir has rushed for 192 yards on 21 carries over the past two games.
The Wildcats and Rovers met for the first time last year in a 63-0 Wildcats rout.
