The Chiefs haven’t started 0-2 since 2014.

Per ESPN Analytics, Kansas City opened with an 18% chance to reach the Super Bowl. A Week 2 loss to the Eagles would drop that to 9% 📉

The New York Giants will host the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 3 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, on Sunday Night Football.

The two teams enter Week 2 with records of 0-2, and the Giants are desperate to pick up a win after dropping their first two games to NFC East rivals. The Chiefs are also desperate to avoid an 0-3 start, which would be the first of the Patrick Mahomes era.

Opening the week, the Giants were listed as significant home underdogs.

Here are three causes for concern ahead of Sunday’s matchup against the Chiefs.

Kansas City in desperate need of a win

The Chiefs are off to an 0-2 start. Unlike the Giants, the Chiefs have been one of the best teams in the league over the last five years, with multiple trips to the Super Bowl. They also have realistic expectations of getting back to the Super Bowl and will need to turn their season around in a hurry.

Giants fans know all too well how hard it is for a team to make the Super Bowl following an 0-2 start.

The Chiefs are going to come in with a sense of urgency, and the Giants’ defense will have its hands full.

Patrick Mahomes

Patrick Mahomes may not be the best quarterback this year as he has been in years past. However, he’s still very much at the top of his game and can take things over in the blink of an eye. If his playmakers get it together and start turning it on, very little can be done to stop the offensive firepower the Chiefs present.

That all begins with Mahomes, the Future Hall of Famer.

An old friend returns

The Giants’ offense exploded in Week 2 against a porous Dallas Cowboys defense. The Chiefs’ defense will be a much tougher matchup in a lot of different ways.

The Chiefs bring the challenge of stopping Chris Jones, who is one of the most talented interior defensive linemen in the league. The Giants’ offensive line has struggled, so they will have their hands full accounting for Jones.

The Chiefs have a lot more talent top to bottom than what the Giants faced in Week 2. New York will also be going up against one of the best defensive coordinators in all of football — a familiar name in defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo.

There’s no doubt the Chiefs’ defense will pose quite a threat to the Giants’ offense.
