There was a slew of good news for the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday when the team released its practice participation report. That news was overshadowed by continued issues for wide receiver Jauan Jennings.
While quarterback Brock Purdy was in practice again, and both fullback Kyle Juszczyk and defensive back Siran Neal progressed in the concussion protocol, Jennings’ absence with ankle and shoulder injuries is still a glaring issue in a struggling 49ers receiving corps.

Jennings is the team’s No. 2 wide receiver with seven catches, 105 yards and a touchdown. Ricky Pearsall leads that group with eight catches and 164 yards. After that, Kendrick Bourne is the third most productive WR with three receptions for 32 yards and he signed just before Week 2. Bourne is the only other WR with a catch.
The 2020 seventh-round pick suffered a shoulder injury in the season opener that made him questionable for Week 2. In Week 2 he sustained an ankle injury that he played through, but his status is still up in the air.
If Jennings is unable to suit up, the team would lose a major third-down weapon and a big-bodied receiver who has the trust of both Purdy and backup QB Mac Jones. Finding offense hasn’t been easy for the 49ers in 2025, and it would certainly be far more difficult if Jennings can’t go.
Here’s the full Thursday participation report:

Did not participate
OL Spencer Burford (knee)
WR Jauan Jennings (shoulder, ankle)
It sounds like Burford could be an IR candidate with a knee injury he sustained against the New Orleans Saints in Week 2. While this is bad news for Jennings, it’s worth noting he was also absent from Wednesday and Thursday practices leading up to Week 2 and he still played Sunday.
Limited participation
DE Yetur Gross-Matos (knee)
FB Kyle Juszczyk (concussion)
S Siran Neal (concussion)
QB Brock Purdy (shoulder, toe)
The only real concern here is Watkins, who has been inactive for the first two games. The rookie WR wasn’t on the injury report in Week 2, and he wasn’t on the participation report Wednesday. It’s unclear what his ailment is, but head coach Kyle Shanahan should have an update Friday when he speaks with reporters.

Full participation
DE Nick Bosa (not injury related – resting player)
RB Christian McCaffrey (calf)
Good news all around here. It looks like McCaffrey is going to be out of Wednesday practices moving forward as the team tries to keep their star running back healthy for the full season.
