Not everyone is enamored with Jacksonville Jaguars rookie Travis Hunter’s knack to play both ways.

Ex-New York Jets coach Rex Ryan is the latest pundit to slam Jacksonville’s plans to use the second-overall NFL draft pick on both sides of the ball.

“Hey, uh, Jacksonville,” Ryan asked on ‘Get Up!’ last Monday. “It’s a hell of a lot harder to find a corner than it is a receiver. Put him as a starting corner … forget all that other jazz.”

Hunter’s penchant to do everything is a product of elite athleticism, football IQ, and unwavering stamina. But his brand of football, clearly, isn’t for everyone.

“You’re going to end up getting an average receiver and an average corner,” Ryan, who also coached the Buffalo Bills in 2015, quipped.

It will become clear how Hunter is best-utilized as the season plays out. But to dismiss the notion after one game, seems wild.

A generational talent, Hunter’s skills make him a dynamic playmaker with the capacity to change a game in all three phases.

Following Ryan’s criticism, Hunter played a total of 81 snaps in Week 2 versus the Bengals. He played 42 snaps on offense and 39 snaps on defense, a significant increase from his first NFL game the week prior. The Bengals beat the Jaguars, 31-27, following a hard-fought game.
