What will it take for Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels to play on Sunday against the Las Vegas Raiders? Daniels sprained a knee in last week’s loss to the Green Bay Packers and underwent an MRI afterward. While the long-term prognosis looks good, Washington will play it safe with its franchise passer.

Daniels has yet to practice this week, and that’s usually a telling sign for the week ahead of the game. However, things are different for Daniels, as they are for most top quarterbacks. There is some precedent here. Daniels injured his ribs last season and left the game. He missed practice time the following week, but did not miss a start.

So, what will it take for Daniels to play on Sunday against the Raiders? Head coach Dan Quinn admitted on Wednesday that this was a decision the Commanders would take into Friday.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler offered more details.

“I just talked to some people with the Commanders, and I was told that he’s got to be able to get out on the practice field on Friday,” Fowler said Thursday. “At least in a limited capacity to have a chance to play. If he can do that, they might just list him as questionable, take it through the weekend, see how he feels, and perhaps he’s a game-time decision. But if it’s not looking good for Friday, they might even rule him out altogether well before the game.”

“Certainly a small chance, but the sense I get is they want to be cautious because they want to make sure Daniels can protect himself.”

The Commanders will play the long game with Daniels. If there are any questions, they’ll keep him out and push the decision into next week. Washington hosts the Raiders this weekend, but is back on the road in Week 4 against the Atlanta Falcons.
