After totaling 1,058 yards from scrimmage and scoring nine touchdowns in 13 games with the Los Angeles Chargers last season, running back J.K. Dobbins had a “weird” exit from the club this spring.
The Chargers placed an unrestricted free agent tender on Dobbins that created an unconventional offseason for the running back. After receiving that tender, Dobbins had to sign with another team before July 22 or be forced to re-sign with L.A. on a lowball offer.

That situation understandably left Dobbins with a chip on his shoulder, and he ended up signing with the division rival Denver Broncos on a one-year deal. The Broncos are set to face the Chargers on Sunday, and Dobbins can give intel to his new teammates about his old club.
“I’ll definitely be a sponge, feed into his brain a little bit, ask him questions,” cornerback Pat Surtain said on Wednesday. “I think he’s got a lot of intel, a lot of insight. Especially with him being in the offense so recently, so I think it will be good to really gain some insight on these guys for sure.”
Los Angeles swept Denver last season and they are considered favorites at home this week. Through two games, the Broncos rank 10th in the NFL with 269 rushing yards, and Dobbins ranks 11th among running backs with 139 yards. The Chargers, meanwhile, only have 171 rushing yards, eighth-fewest in the NFL. Dobbins will undoubtedly have a point to prove against his old club in Week 3.
