Head coach Dan Quinn ruled Daniels out on Friday. Early in the week, Quinn said they’d know more about Daniels on Friday, hinting that he would need to practice in order to play. Daniels did practice on Friday, but was limited.
“Jayden was limited today,” Quinn said. “On the field, we’ve decided to start Marcus. And we said at the beginning we were going to be very diligent on his return to play and make sure we didn’t miss any steps. So, we’re going to be smart, not just fast. The player wants to do everything all the time, that’s who he is as a competitor, which I love.”
Quinn was questioned if Daniels was limited in any way, and Quinn responded that he’s “not there all the way yet,” stressing it wasn’t one specific thing. Quinn did not that Daniels was able to do “speed work and throwing.”

Quinn didn’t elaborate further, but stressed how important it was to be smart with Daniels.
Mariota, the 10th-year pro, makes his first start since the 2022 season when he was with the Atlanta Falcons. Mariota did appear in three games for the Commanders, leading them to two wins, completing 77% of his passes for 364 yards and four touchdowns. Mariota also rushed for 92 yards and a touchdown.
