WATERBURY, CT. (WFSB) – Friday night lights are back in the city of Waterbury.
The football team will play its first Friday night game since last September when the district moved game times to the afternoon or Saturday mornings after a large fight broke out amongst fans.
There are additional security measures in place to prevent the chaos that transpired last year.
Barriers were put up along the stadium gates and in areas that aren’t well lit and where kids shouldn’t be hanging out during the game, like under the bleachers.
The district is keeping track of students when they come to school on Fridays and then using that same system when they show up to the stadium so they can keep a record of who is attending.
There’s also been additional security cameras installed around the field and there will be at least seven Waterbury police officers patrolling the area at each game.
The goal is to have students up in the bleachers focused on the game and enjoying the fun of Friday night lights.
The Kennedy Eagles are facing the Torrington Raiders at 7:00 p.m.
