TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Northridge Jaguars traveled just down the road to Central High School to take on the Falcons in 6A regional play here in Tuscaloosa for some Friday night action in West Alabama. The Jaguars were looking to reestablish a win streak after taking down  Brookwood last week during homecoming.

The first quarter started slowly, with neither team coming close to the endzone, but moving the ball effectively down the field. The second quarter was a different story, Central connecting on a 57-yard catch and run to open the scoring, taking a 7-0 lead less than two minutes into the second quarter. The Jaguars immediately responded with a kickoff return touchdown by Brylon Tubbs, and the game was once again tied 12 seconds after Central broke the goose eggs on the scoreboard.

Central retook the lead roughly six minutes of game-time later, with a 26-yard touchdown pass from Falcons quarterback Armani White. Mayson Elam and Jaylin McCray hit on a connection that Northridge has come to rely on to tie the contest at 14 all. After a fumble by the Jags, Central added three points just before halftime to head into the break with a 17-14 lead over Northridge.

The Falcon’s kicking game left points on the field in the third quarter, with Central hoping that it wouldn’t come back to bite them in a tight matchup on Friday night. Hick Finison tied the game for Northridge late in the third quarter, and the fourth quarter was setting up to be a photo finish between the two squads.

A 10-yard touchdown run put victory within the grasp of Central High School, but with 9:07 left, Mayson Elam would try to work his magic and set the Jaguars up in positive positioning.

And work his magic, Elam did, connecting with Keith Powell to draw within one. Hicks Finison tied the game, but with 4:32 left, Central had plenty of time to get into field goal range.

Central failed to drive, and Northridge threw an interception with less than a minute to go, but the Falcons failed to convert the game-winning 46-yard field goal. There would be free football in Tuscaloosa on Friday night.

The Falcons scored on the first play of overtime, setting up Mayson Elam for some late-game heroics if the Jaguars wanted to pick up a second win in a row. Elam found his man, hitting Espey in the back of the endzone. A failed two-point conversion left the Jaguars heartbroken as they dropped their second game of the season.
