The San Francisco 49ers added a veteran presence to their wide receiver room this offseason, signing former Los Angeles Rams wideout Demarcus Robinson to a two-year, $8 million contract. While initially reported as a $9.5 million deal, the official terms still reflect the team’s belief that Robinson adds valuable experience to the group.

However, the signing came with some uncertainty.

Before signing with the 49ers, Rams general manager Les Snead suggested that a potential suspension for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy jeopardized Robinson’s return to Los Angeles. The wideout was arrested and charged with a DUI in November 2024.

“He does have some things that he’s gotta work through legally this offseason that could prevent play time in the future, so that’s the reality,” Snead said. “We appreciate what he’s done.”

The NFL has not yet issued a final ruling on Robinson’s case. However, a suspension seems likely given the nature of the charge.

“And veteran free-agent addition Demarcus Robinson faces the uncertainty of a possible three-game suspension,” Matt Maiocco wrote in a feature for NBC Sports Bay Area. “The NFL is considering his status in regards to the league’s policy on substances of abuse.”

Robinson joins a 49ers receiver group in transition. With Brandon Aiyuk still recovering from the knee injury he sustained in October, the team is expected to open the 2025 season with Jauan Jennings and Ricky Pearsall as the Week 1 starters.

San Francisco also added depth through the draft, selecting Jordan Watkins in the fourth round and Junior Bergen in the seventh. Although, Bergen is expected to contribute primarily on special teams as a return specialist.

Robinson appeared in all 17 games for the Rams last season, recording 31 receptions for 505 yards and seven touchdowns. However, a potential suspension could delay his regular-season debut with the 49ers.
