Summerville High School’s varsity football team nabbed its second consecutive shutout victory at home Friday night against the Bret Harte Bullfrogs, with a final score of 56-0.

The Bullfrogs received the opening kickoff and were quickly marched off the field following a three-and-out on the opening drive. The Bears followed up the impressive defensive stop with a three-play, 62-yard drive, finished off with a 50-yard touchdown run by sophomore running back Karter Lea.

Lea had a stellar rushing performance on the night, tallying 97 yards and a touchdown on just four carries in the first half.

The Bears brought their usual rushing attack to the gridiron Friday night. Summerville scored all eight of their touchdowns on rushing plays, once again sending five different Bears players in the end zone, just as they had the week before against Hiram Johnson High School.

The Bears’ defense continued to stifle any and all of the Bullfrogs’ attempts to move the ball down the field.

Midway through the first quarter, tempers began to flare, and the tension between both teams reached a boiling point. Five unsportsmanlike penalties were called in the first quarter, culminating in the ejection of a Bret Harte player.

Once the temperature of the evening had been reduced back to a simmer, the Bears resumed their attack, and a 12-yard rushing touchdown from senior Bears quarterback Bryce Leveroos put Summerville up 21-0.

Leveroos continued to leave his mark on the 2025 homecoming celebrations for the Bears, adding two more rushing touchdowns in the second quarter.

The Bears ended the first half up 35-0. During halftime, the 2025 homecoming king and queen were announced, with senior Cora Lee Oliva winning the tiara as queen, and senior tight end Wyatt Berger donning the crown as king.

During what limited amount of time the Bullfrogs’ offense did have possession of the ball, the Bears’ defense, led by senior inside linebacker Owen Herrera and senior defensive lineman Gabe Rafferty, only allowed the Bullfrogs into their own territory three times on the evening.

Rafferty and Herrera combined for 13 tackles and a sack.

Luke Larson once again was a disruptor for the Bears on defense, and he supplemented the Bears’ offensive attack with a 31-yard rushing touchdown featuring multiple broken tackles on his way to paydirt.

Larson also added four tackles and a sack to the stat sheet.

With a running clock in effect, senior running back Orlando Lopez took a handoff from Leveroos and promptly made his way 35 yards into the end zone untouched.

The Bullfrogs simply couldn’t move the ball against the Bears’ impenetrable defensive front, and the Bears regained possession with little more than six minutes remaining in the game.

Junior running back Malakai Fromm raced down the field for a 60-yard rushing touchdown and the final score on the evening.

Offensive Player of the Game:

Bryce Leveroos – 2/3 passing, 31 yards; 5 carries, 64 yards, 3 touchdowns

Defensive Player of the Game:
