The Washington Commanders are making a big change on their offensive line ahead of Sunday’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders.

NFL insider Jordan Schultz reports that Washington is planning to start veteran Andrew Wylie at right guard in place of Nick Allegretti on Sunday. Wylie, who signed with Washington ahead of the 2023 season, started 29 games at right tackle for the Commanders over the past two seasons. However, he started at guard for the Kansas City Chiefs for the first three years of his career before moving to right tackle out of necessity.

Wylie has been a jack of all trades for the Commanders this summer, filling in as the backup left tackle, while also competing with rookie Josh Conerly Jr. at right tackle. Many wondered this offseason if Washington would turn to Wylie at right guard until Sam Cosmi returns. The 6-foot-6, 309-pound Wylie brings a unique combination of power and athleticism to right guard.

Allegretti, also a former Kansas City Chief, started every game at left guard last season. But when the Commanders acquired Laremy Tunsil and Conerly this offseason, Brandon Coleman moved to left guard.

Allegretti will continue to serve as Washington’s top reserve interior offensive lineman, including center. There is no word on when Cosmi will return, but he is expected back anytime.
