The Minnesota Vikings will be starting their second quarterback of the early 2025 season on Sunday. We also know who will be his primary and secondary backups for Sunday’s matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Kevin O’Connell told reporters this week that Carson Wentz will be starting for the Vikings in Week 3. His backup will be undrafted rookie free agent Max Brosmer. Desmond Ridder, whom the team signed on Wednesday. Ridder was a third-round pick (74th overall) in the 2022 draft.
This will unofficially be the Vikings’ depth chart until McCarthy returns. Interestingly, Brosmer has more experience than either Wentz or Ridder despite being a rookie. Wentz was signed in August after spending the offseason as a free agent.
Starting quarterback J.J. McCarthy suffered a high ankle sprain in last Sunday’s loss to the Atlanta Falcons. He is expected to miss 2-4 weeks.
