After the Dallas Cowboys jettisoned superstar pass rusher Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers, every game on their schedule this season has become magnified.
They simply don’t have the margin of error on defense that Parsons used to give them, and it has resulted in a situation where everyone has had to pick up the slack in an all-hands-on-deck situation.
They will face the Chicago Bears this Sunday, and the Bears, despite being 0-2, are a team the 1-1 Cowboys cannot take lightly. Bears quarterback Caleb Williams still has lots of natural talent, and he still has two definite offensive weapons in wide receivers D.J. Moore and Rome Odunze.
Dallas may have to go to war without one of its key contributors on defense, as cornerback Trevon Diggs was added to its injury report on Saturday due to a knee ailment. He’s listed as questionable, per Mike Garafalo of NFL Network.

Diggs has been a reliable defender for Dallas over the last few years. A second-round draft pick in 2020 out of the University of Alabama, where he won a national championship, he made the Pro Bowl in 2021 and 2022. In 2021, he had 21 passes defended and led the NFL with 11 interceptions and two pick-sixes.
He missed most of the 2023 campaign due to a torn ACL in his left knee, and he has been dogged by knee issues ever since.

Diggs’ latest ailment is even more concerning because the Cowboys have already ruled out cornerback DaRon Bland due to a right foot injury. Bland has played in eight of a possible 19 games since the start of 2024, but he made NFL history in 2023 by logging five pick-sixes.
Through two games this year, Dallas is 27th in points allowed and 30th in total yards given up. It surrendered 37 points last weekend to the mediocre New York Giants in a three-point overtime win, although it was able to blank the Giants on the scoreboard during the extra period.

With Parsons now in Green Bay, the Cowboys have very little pressure off the edges against opposing quarterbacks. They also lost defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence during the offseason when he opted to join the Seattle Seahawks.
The Cowboys will return home after playing in Chicago and will face Parsons and the Packers on Sunday, Sept. 28.
