The Houston Texans are making three moves ahead of Sunday afternoon’s contest against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Duval County.

The Texans have signed fullback Jakob Johnson to the active roster, following raising him from the practice squad for the first two games. He will serve as a potential tight end and special teams talent for the offense as C.J. Stroud looks to secure a win in the AFC South, along with a win in general.

Houston also plans to elevate defensive backs D’Angelo Ross and Myles Bryant to the active roster. In a corresponding move to sign Johnson, the Texans are placing rookie Jaylin Smith on the injured reserve with a hamstring injury.

Houston is expected to have back wide receivers Christian Kirk and Braxton Berrios, who returned to practice on Wednesday with hamstring injuries. This means the Texans won’t have to trust rookie wide receiver Jayden Higgins and Jaylin Noel. Noel, who serves as the first slot receiver off the bench and has taken Berrios’ place as the punt returner for the first three games.

Traded from Jacksonville for a 2026 seventh-round pick, Kirk has been expected to be the No. 2 wide receiver to Collins after in March. Health has been a concern throughout his career, as Kirk has missed 14 games over the past two seasons because of season-ending injuries.
