The 49ers elevated a quarterback and a receiver from the practice squad for Week 3 against the Cardinals.
The San Francisco 49ers made some roster moves Saturday ahead of facing the Arizona Cardinals. It sheds some light on the availability of a couple of their offensive starters.
They announced Saturday that they elevated quarterback Adrian Martinez and receiver Malik Turner from the practice squad.
With those moves, signs point toward quarterback Brock Purdy and receiver Jauan Jennings, both listed as questionable to play on the final injury report, will not be able to go.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan said that perhaps Purdy could be the No. 2 quarterback or the emergency No. 3. With Martinez getting elevated, the best that we can expect is that Purdy is deactivated for the game, although he might dress and be desginated as the emergency quarterback, who can only play if both active quarterbacks get injured. Mac Jones will start for the Niners.
Purdy has turf toe and an injured left shoulder.
Jennings did not practice all week. He played last week. He has ankle and shoulder injuries.
The 49ers also placed guard Spencer Burford on injured reserve, where starting guard Ben Bartch already is. We will see who gets the start.
