The 2025 NFL season is in full swing – and no, it’s not too early to start thinking playoffs.
Yes, there is plenty of football left, but for some teams, the lights may be dimming a bit early. History is generally unkind to teams which start 0-2.
For those not keeping score at home, that’s the Kansas City Chiefs, the New York Giants, the New York Jets, the Cleveland Browns, the Houston Texans, the Tennessee Titans, the Chicago Bears, the New Orleans Saints and Carolina Panthers.
Of those squads, Kansas City is the chief surprise. While they’re down Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy, few expected Kansas City to still be searching for their first win at this point. It’s the first time since 2014 that Andy Reid’s squad has started 0-2, as well – a season in which they missed the playoffs, the only time that’s happened during the “Big Red” tenure.
Kansas City caps the Sunday slate with a matchup against the similarly 0-2 Giants. Someone’s zero will go.
For teams that can get off the mat today and put a W in the win column, hope will spring eternal entering the fall. For teams that can’t, well, fans might be in for a rough season: Just four times since 1990 a team that started 0-3 gone on to make the NFL postseason, most recently happening in 2018 when the Texans made the postseason.
Still, this is the NFL, and wackier things have happened. But it all has to start with a win, sooner rather than later.
