Auburn QB Jackson Arnold on return to face OU football: ‘It sucks losing the game’

Jackson Arnold threw for 220 yards with a touchdown, but Auburn fell short 24-17 at Oklahoma on Saturday in Norman.

NORMAN — Vibes are good for OU football.

The Sooners are 4-0 and ranked in the top 10 nationally and own perhaps the best pair of wins in the country over Auburn and Michigan.

OU’s defense tied a school record with nine sacks Saturday against the Tigers and added 14 tackles for loss. R Mason Thomas clinched the win with a sack and safety after missing the first half due to a suspension stemming from a targeting call.

Sooners quarterback John Mateer was off early but completed 16 of his last 17 passes and led a six-play, 75-yard game-winning drive. Mateer finished 24-of-36 passing for 271 yards and one touchdown, while also rushing for a team-high 29 yards and one touchdown.

On the latest edition of the SoonersXtra podcast, OU beat writer Colton Sulley and columnist Joe Mussatto broke down the Sooners‘ win, Mateer’s performance, whether OU’s defensive line is one of the best in the country and what potentially starting undefeated heading into the Red River Rivalry means for Brent Venables.
