Los Angeles Chargers running back Najee Harris and right guard Mekhi Becton have been ruled out with injuries in Sunday’s game against the Denver Broncos at SoFi Stadium. Initial tests on Harris indicated a torn Achilles, coach Jim Harbaugh said after the game, which Becton suffered a concussion.
Harris’ non-contact injury occurred on second-and-4 with a little more than five minutes remaining in the first half, while Becton was out of the game for the second drive of the second quarter.
Harris took one step forward as quarterback Justin Herbert opened up for a play-action fake and immediately went down, requiring Herbert to jump over him to stay on his feet and complete the pass. Harris was unable to put any weight on his left leg. The training cart immediately came out and took him straight to the locker room.
Harris, 27, signed with the Chargers this past offseason on a one-year deal worth up to $9.25 million. The 2021 first-round pick spent the first four years of his NFL career with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
One month after signing Harris in free agency, the Chargers took Omarion Hampton with the 22nd pick in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft.
Hampton, who is expected to take on a heavier load in Harris’ absence, scored on a 3-yard run late in the first half. The Chargers went into halftime with a 10-7 lead and won 23-20 on a Cameron Dicker field goal as time expired.
Jamaree Salyer replaced Becton, 26, who signed a two-year, $20 million contract with the Chargers in March.
