Did anyone notice the game Washington Commanders linebacker Bobby Wagner produced Sunday afternoon?

In the Week 3 home contest against the Raiders, the six-time All-Pro linebacker was credited with 11 tackles (6 solo, 5 assisted), two quarterback sacks, and two tackles for a loss. Next Gen Stats then later produced the statistic that Wagner had generated five pressures on seven pass rushes, sacking Geno Smith (Raiders QB) twice. Of note is that both sacks by Wagner were on a four-man rush. It’s only Week 3, yet, Next Gen Stats also included that “Wagner’s five pressures were the most in a game by an off-ball player this season.”

Washington led 17-10 with 1:26 remaining in the half, when the Raiders faced a 2nd & 10 from their 40. Daron Payne drew a double team from the center and right guard, while Von Miller went wide, taking the right tackle with him. Wagner then attacked the gap, got to Smith, and brought him down for a six-yard sack back to the Raiders 34.

In the third quarter, the Commanders led 27-10, and the Raiders were on their own 26, with a 2nd & 13. Dorance Armstrong is taking the right tackle wide right, while Payne is again in a double team with the right guard and center. Payne angles his pass rush slightly left to the right guard. The only other rusher was Javon Kinlaw, who rushed on the right side, gaining the attention of both the left tackle and left guard. Consequently, Wagner rushed to the right of Payne this time, was untouched, and Smith never had time to avoid Wagner’s sack.

This was the first game since the 2023 season (Week 4) that Wagner recorded two quarterback sacks. This was the fifth career two-sack game for Wagner in the NFL.
