The New Orleans Saints hit a different kind of low in Sunday’s 44-13 loss to the Seattle Seahawks, tying their own record for the most points ever allowed in a half of football in franchise history — and NFL football history, for that matter.
There were a lot of numbers and statistics to call into question, including Mickey Loomis’ overall record as an NFL general manager. That’s a subject of scrutiny, with many fans on social media demanding change from the team, including the potential firing of Loomis. He’s the longest-tenured GM in the sport, but the win-loss record of the teams he built is a growing concern.

It’s been a buzzing subject for a while now, with many calling for his head far before the collapse in Seattle. If there is one thing that stands out on his resume, it’s how the teams Loomis has built fared with and without former Saints head coach Sean Payton. Loomis now holds a 208-167 (.555) record in his career at the position, which isn’t anything remarkable, but isn’t exactly horrific, either. The Saints did award Loomis with a commemorative game ball after his 200th career win back in 2023.
But things take quite the turn when the 15 years that Sean Payton spent coaching are removed. Without Payton on the sidelines coaching this team, Loomis’ record as a GM plummets beneath the .500 mark, at 49-69 (.415). That is startling to say the least. Between the Saints’ 28-36 run in his first four years on the job from 2002 to 2005 and the four years Loomis has overseen in the post-Payton era from 2022 to 2025 (going 21-33 so far), his reputation has taken some big hits. With the team opening the season at 0-3 for the first time since 2016, it’s plenty reasonable to believe thing could go awry sooner rather than later.
Some Saints fans have already shifted their attention to the 2026 NFL draft and potential staff changes that could be coming down the pipe. It’s hard to blame them, and if things don’t change quickly, it wouldn’t be shocking to see Loomis sent packing in the near future. If the Saints are headed for a true rebuild, he shouldn’t be a part of it.
