Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame broadcaster Marty Brennaman weighed in on the Cincinnati Bengals‘ historic loss Sept. 21.

The Minnesota Vikings blew out the Bengals in a 48-10 loss that marked Cincinnati’s largest margin of defeat in franchise history.

Brennaman took to social media Sunday and blamed team ownership.

“What is unacceptable is Bengals ownership,” he posted to Threads, responding to a quote from head coach Zac Taylor that said the first half turnovers were unacceptable. “This football team is a joke and the main reason is the unwillingness of ownership to spend the money necessary to make this team a contender. As I said, it’s a joke!”

Bengals owner Mike Brown and his family have received criticism over the years for being tight with money, but this past offseason they awarded new contracts to wide receivers Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, both more than $110 million over four years.

They also gave defensive end Trey Hendrickson a pay raise, but couldn’t agree to a long-term deal during extended contract negotiations.
